Laws governing Registration in Tanzania Mainland

The Land Registration Act Cap 334 and the Land Regulation Rules 1954

These Laws provide for procedures for Land registration and administration of the Registry for instance section 4 of the Land Registration Ordinance provides that the minister shall appoint the Registrar of Titles to perform the duties and exercise the powers imposed and conferred by this ordinance and may appoint a Deputy Registrar and any number of Assistant Registrar’s who shall be subject to the direction of the Registrar of Titles.

The Registration of Documents Act cap 117.

This Law deals with registration of all documents not necessarily land related documents. Documents may be registered in compulsory register or optional register depending on the nature of document. Example of documents registered under registry of documents is as follows;

Compulsory Registration
